Helping Kids Cope During the Pandemic: A Free Webinar for Parents

Attention Parents: Helping Kids Cope During the Pandemic

The light at the end of the distance learning tunnel is coming…hang in there! We know it’s an understatement to say this has been a challenging time for parents, especially parents whose children have additional needs.

As you look toward the summer break, you might be wondering how you can support your child’s social and emotional health, especially since everything social is canceled. You might also wonder how you can prepare your child to cope with re-entry to school in the fall, in whatever form that may take.

We’ve all experienced sudden, dramatic changes in our lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s nearly impossible to avoid some emotional upheaval. Children, as well as adults, have been forced to contend with disruptions to their routines without a clear idea of when “normal life” will resume.

All families are stressed, but the needs are magnified when kids face additional challenges.

Children who were already struggling to cope with everyday demands are now facing new limitations, uncertainty, and interruptions to routines that provided comfort and stability.

Here at CW, we prioritize the importance of social-emotional learning (SEL) and we believe in supporting the whole family and the whole child. Toward that end, we’re happy to share some good news: our co-founder Elizabeth Sautter has developed just what parents need to help their children right now!

In partnership with school psychologist Dr. Rebecca Branstetter, Elizabeth has created a program and course offering practical strategies and resources for parents to use while sheltering in place and beyond.

To get you started, the team has developed a free webinar (available until May 31st) to help parents become effective social and emotional coaches for their children. Register here for the FREE webinar, where you’ll learn 3 ways to help your child cope so they can stay calm, focused, and even happy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the webinar, you’ll learn:

  • Exactly what to SAY and DO when your child is struggling, shutting down, or acting out. You’ll find out how to help them calm down and get control of their big emotions quickly.

  • What (and how) to TEACH your child to help them develop the social-emotional skills they need to live a happy, fulfilling life.

And, after the webinar, you’ll receive a free downloadable Shelter in Place Survival Kit full of tools you can use right away to support your child, including:

  • Customizable schedules for homework and chores

  • Scripts for exactly what to say when you’re about to blow your top, and

  • A curated list of research-based and practical strategies to teach your child how to pause before reacting, be more mindful, and build social-emotional learning that fit easily into daily routines.

Attention therapists, educators, and school psychologists!

Professionals can play a key role as parent allies, support coaches, and consultants to help parents cope with the current situation. One important way we can do this is by teaching parents to sprinkle SEL into their everyday lives at home to teach their kids social, emotional, and executive functioning skills.

Want to support the families you serve by equipping parents with practical strategies for teaching SEL at home?

Feel free to share the link to our free webinar [https://www.makesociallearningstick.com/3-keys-to-help-your-child-free-webinar] with parents you work with and sign up for yourself too. For any parent feeling stress and overwhelm right now, the webinar will launch them toward calmer days as they quickly learn to build SEL into their current and future lives.
