DESCRIPTION

School age stuttering therapy can seem overwhelming, at times.  Many speech-language pathologists report not feeling confident in how to best serve students who stutter and their families.  This presentation will briefly discuss outdated information regarding stuttering therapy and outline updated therapy concepts within the framework of the World Health Organization ICF model as it relates to stuttering assessments and intervention.  Utilizing this framework, participants will gain knowledge of the breadth of stuttering therapy.  This discussion will be connected to present-day  practical therapy concepts that are enjoyable for both clinicians and students and that can be adjusted to age ranges of clients.

10 min: introduction and participant survey

20 min: getting rid of the old

40 min: the WHO/ICF and renewing our stuttering therapy

20 min: participant review and questions
